Alien Creation

Rolling on with more funny from TESD, Episode 32 has Bry toying with the notion of suspending Quinn from the show due to New York’s bedbug infestation. After talking about some television programs, Walt retells a story of a loaded cable box  and the authorities who tried to get him to sing like a stool pigeon. Bry establishes a ban on shout outs, but not before sneaking one in very creatively. Bry then tells about an awkward exchange between Walt and Walt’s neighbor. A discussion about how the British Royalty receives financial support turns into an heated debate on whether tears would be shed for a president’s untimely demise. Ending the episode with an analysis of the lyrics of “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” the gang prepares for a cross over episode for Highlands: A Peephole History in which the “Storm of the Century.” is discussed.

Or would it. Due to Quinn’s involvement as a non- Highlands resident, the episode is never aired. This episode, now dubbed “Bryland”, is now available for your listening pleasure on bandcamp.

Episode 33 is a live show from Las Cruces, New Mexico, which opens with Bry narrating Walt’s disappointment in New Mexico’s reluctance to be entrepreneurial in cultivating an alien themed region. This sparks a brainstorm session of an alien themed amusement park. Bry and Quinn roleplay Quinn as an ambassador should first contact ever be made with visitors from the stars. The show ends with Bry showing some photos which prompt whether or not he may have an Oedipus complex.

Hockey Talk

Need some hockey podcast to fill your mundane lives? Need a little reminder to accentuate why you love Pucknuts so much? Well if you love Pucknuts, or hockey in general, Why not give these a try?

  • SModcast  Episode 76- The Great One: If any episode can claim to have tested hockey waters prior to Pucknuts, this is it. Kevin tells Scott about the Gospel of Gretzky and his renewed love for the game of ice hockey. A MUST LISTEN FOR ALL PUCKNUTS FANS
  • SModcast 88- 11 Short of 99, the Number of the Great One, Wayne Gretzky- Recorded Live at The Sanderson Center in Brantford, Ontario, Canada, Kev and Mosier talk about the Walter Gretzky Street Hockey Tournament. Kev also introduces various members of his elite team, including Malcolm Ingram, Katie Morgan, and Jen Schwallbach.
  • Jay and Silent Bob Get Jobs, May 27, 2011- In this one, our heroes get the honor and privilege of interviewing 4 time Stanley Cup winner Scott Niedermeyer. Nuff said.
  • Holik on Hockey- I saw Walt tweet that former Devil/Stanley Cup Champion/ NHL Legend Bobby Holik. For true Hockey aficionados, it is worth the listen. Holik’s views on concussions and captainship in the first two episodes respectively are intruiging thought provoking views.

The Apuckalypse Project is coming… The Beginning is Here…

Until next week…

Dedicated

Back with more of that TESD goodness. You know you love it.

Episode 30 starts with thew guys discussing a Skype voicemail by Dean George of the UK, (those of you who have read the past Pucknuts postings know this name.) It is in this episode we see the brilliance of this silver tongued superstar as he reads his poem in ode to Tell Em Steve-Dave. A mysterious gift arrives for Walt prompting him to dedicate the next set of shows to “Rich”. After an email about how the podcast has aided a man’s life, and discussing what value the gang should put in comments and opinions from twitter, Bry answers for his absence from helping Walt at The Stash the prior weekend. With “I Sell Comics” Michael Zapcic, Bry tells a tale from the pages of 9/11. Bry proposes a new segment called Heroes and Zeroes, and Ming is invited to weigh in on the Animal Horders show. This episode also talks about Bob Ecthingum’s “Night of the Livid Walt” animation, reffering back to a conversation from Episode 2.

Episode 31 The mystery gift from the previous episode (Walt’s jokingly requested iPad), is revealed. A topless photo sparks a debate on smut and censoring one’s self. The gang talks about the sponsorship with Adam and Eve and are join by by Jess, a listener who would be helping them with a commercial.  Jess brings a 1 True 3 which sparks a slight argument before the game can commence. A recap of Bry’s work day settles the mood as the gang delves into driving on beaches and age appropriate cheers. At this same time, Pucknuts first airs and is discussed.

Until next week…

ISC #11: Code of Conduct

Joined once again by members of the film crew for Comic Book Men, Ming and Mike lead a round table discussion of varying codes by which super heroes, and some super villans, adhere themselves to. Through out this discussion there is also talk about Rob Bruce’s love of Jar Jar Binks and the Green Lantern movie and acting as the law of the Secret Stash. The gang also delves into comics for kids, poker victories, McDonald’s characters, and talk some comic shop in regards to The Walking Dead, Bionic Man, and Batman: Under the Red Hood.

Not much to put into for this week’s episode.

Pucknuts Profile: The Second Line

So we’ve analyzed the chronicles of The Pucknuts and looked at the cornerstones of this once great podcast. But greatness needs an infrastructure in which to display its prominence. For the Pucknuts, whether because of absences or just needing the extra support, there are three individuals who were at hand to lend support. Ladies and gentlemen of The Apuckalypse, I present to you your Second Line.

  • Brian Quinn- The first Guest Pucknut, Quinn was always at the ready to fill in or to add support on the pod , sometimes paired with Bry to help derail the topics of hockey. A nostalgic Devil’s fan, Quinn is always at hand to fill in for the Pucknuts, particularly if Walt has a game to play.
  • Frank #3- Dubbed by Bry as a fountain of misinformation about the New Jersey Devils, Frank #3 first appeared on Pucknuts when Sunday Jeff was MIA. His famous contribution was breaking a story about Brodeur, which had to be verified to Walt and Bry’s satisfaction.
  • Kevin Smith- Granted, he has never appeared on an episode of Pucknuts, (though it was hinted that a possible episode was to be recorded minus Sunday Jeff) Kev has made the largest contribution to the Pucknuts in the form of season tickets. He has also talked much about hockey during various episodes of SModcast and was instrumental in partnering with Walter Gretzky to raise awareness for the street hockey tournaments in Brandtford.

The Apuckalypse Project is coming soon…

Until next week…

Planet Houston

That’s right, for this week’s TESD tribute post I busted a Superman II reference for the title. In what I like to call the “Makin Hay” treatment, the guys dissect their live show in Houston, spanning across three episodes. Also, the benefit podcast for Brendan Morocco is recorded during this time.

Episode 27 opens with some ribbing about Quinn’s desire to go see a Tom Petty concert slated for later that evening. After debating on the evils of the internet, Walt espouses his love of technology in the form of GPS navigation systems. Bry denounces a local business yet again, this time a little known place call Jay and SIlent Bob’s Secret Stash. After the genesis of what is now Booty Time, tensions mount over the gift card situation for the winner of the Not-So-Super-Bowl. After some heated debate on dealing with hot button issues, the gang discuss the possibility for an assistant for Ming Chen in regards to internet site maintenance. Given the length, the guys analyze the first few minutes of the Houston show.

Its after this episode that the Brendan Morroco benefit pod is conducted and recorded live at the Cargo on Staten Island. (on my personal playlist, I have it placed after the three episodes of the Houston show. just some useless info for ya.)

Episode 28 talks about a power outage in Red Bank which had potentially threatened that week’s recording. After a discussion with his wife, Walt is forced to make a public apology to Bry in regards to the gift card situation. Walt talks about the cosmic message from the music genius of Alice Cooper and another J Sarge masterpiece is unveiled in the Booty Time music. After reflecting on the Brendan Morocco show, the gang returns to the assessment of the Houston show, which includes talk about passions, interacting with the audience, and tales of Toad.

Episode 29 has Bry and Walt recounting the Alice Cooper concert they attended, the end of a streak, and the end of the Ilya Kovalchuk contract signing saga. Bry informs Quinn of a recent employment opportunity presented to him and Walt tells of delivering comics yet again (a call back to the same individual discussed in Episode 2). The gang then returns to the Houston show to wrap up with birthdays, sex robots, and Bry’s 1 True 3. After the episode ends, the Houston show is played in its entirety uninterrupted.

Until next week…. Don’t forget to get Your Space Monkeys tix.

Pucknut Profile: Bryan Johnson

In the last Pucknuts tribute post, we gave a shout to Patrick Elias a shout out for beating John Maclean’s all time scoring record. It seems that Patty is not content, as his 3 point game against the Florida Panthers also marks his 1000th game with the Devils. Is there anything this guy can’t do?

So we return to our analysis of Pucknuts, and what better way to cap our starting line up than with the man who was self described as the ” ignorant window to the world of hockey and the Devils.” That’s right. We are talking Steve-Dave himself, Teflon Bry. The man, the myth, the bearded legend; you wanted the best, you got, well this guy, BRYAN JOHNSON. The Pucknuts enforcer and conversation derailer, Bry was the only man at the table not versed, in comparison with the others, in the world of hockey, the NHL, and the New Jersey Devils. for those who did not know much about hockey, myself included, it was through Bry that we came to be ingrained in the world of this game of kings on ice. But Bry served a dual purpose. For those who did not come to appreciate ice hockey or the Devils, its Bryan’s razor sharp wit and hilarious hijinks that kept fans entertained, hockey fans and non hockey fans alike. While Pucknuts carried on valiantly the times he was scratched from episodes, his absence was felt. To Bryan Johnson, we salute thee.

Stats:

Primary Team Allegiance:  None

Secondary Team Allegiance: Uh, Devils?

Noteworthy Contributions: Pucknut Enforcer, derailing conversations and Ming to provide overall enjoyment and entertainment. Starting an episode of Pucknuts without Ming as Ming.

Until next week…

Coming Soon. “The Apuckalypse Project”

Fourth Walled

Its a brand new year, and a brand new set of tribute posts for all the fans of the greatest pods the world has ever seen?  Its time to get down with the funny. Before we get into it, if you haven’t checked already, check out the TESD quotes countdown @TESDQuotes on twitter. This person really got some good ones and ones even I had forgotten. if your a true TESD fan, you should be following.

And now…

With tensions slightly strained, Episode 25 begins the short lived search for a fourth cast member, one to be Walt’s wingman. Before that, the Thank You bonus pod is sent out for those who donated at the Hollywood Improv, along with discussions of the road shows, WonderBros Zombie paintings, setting up the benefit pod for Brendan Morocco, and talk of changing the twitter handle once the 10k mark is hit (originally @bryandwalt). After Bry talks about an exciting new financial venture via an email scam, the guys get their Freud on as they try to dissect Walt’s depression regarding the Kovalchuk situation. After talking about New York’s Super Bowl cash sleight to New Jersey, the use of presidential images in carnival games, and adventures in whale watching, the guys turn their focus to Ming and his tryout as the fourth member for TESD. The Not-So-Super Bowl trophy is awarded, as well as at the motivation behind this Flanagan machination.

Episode 26 sees the guys talk with Dan the Navy Guy, a guest brought to the show by Quinn. As they talk about life overseas, the Middle east, whale watching, and Juggalos, Walt showers the group with gifts acquired from a flea market. Sunday Jeff then joins the group for his tryout for the potential fourth cast member, including doing a 1 True 3. This also marks the appearance of the new 1 True 3 theme song. And after Walt’s closing, this episode contains a “bonus track”, harken back to music albums back in the day.

Until next week….
