Rat Man Blues

Apologies for the long breaks between posts. Hopefully I’ll be able to get back into the swing of things plus some new posts, one for a new podcasts I will be doing. But more on that another time. Lets keep this pure to one of our favorite and worldly beloved podcasts; Tell Em Steve-Dave.

Meanwhile, back at Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash in historical Red Bank, New Jersey. Episode 46 marks the first episode in the 2011 year. Walt talks about how his kids schooled him on Ke$ha as a prelude to his review of the Spider-Man musical on Broadway, and his new love for the theater. The guys discuss classic television shows, New Years Resoltions, and The Seven Deadly Sins. The episode ends with another instalment of Walt Flanagan: Life Consultant.

Episode 47 starts with talk about the Golden-Voiced Homeless Man, the Shooting in Arizona, and the Hoaders episode with rats. Bry’s blue funk prompts Quinn and Walt to analyze why he is in a dark, depressing place. After listening to a clip from Adam Carolla’s podcast regarding the Podcast Awards, the show closes out with some help from Ming Chen in a Cold Call Cuss-Out.

#TESDMarathon

I apologize first hand that there have been no new updates to this blog in the past month. My personal laptop is undergoing repairs and the only other place  I can do any computer work is at work, which I try not to do any personal stuff on.

In any event, I figured I would hammer out a quickie (would all former girlfriends please stop aggreeing?) and just update what I have been doing while I wait for my laptop to get back up and running. Its the TESD Marathon.

If you remember back a few weeks, Bry was laid up in the hospital and so we were without one of our favorite podcasts. I saw various tweets from other faithful listeners who were offering up episodes for others to revisit until a new episode downloaded. Inspired by this, and the fact that with my computer down I couldn’t download new episodes, I decided to start from the beginning and go until I reached the most recent episode. I began with Bry and Walt’s various guest spots on SModcast prior to TESD and going through the back catalog including bonus pods and TESD: Overkill. Before it is all over, I will likely include the Secret Stash and Pucknuts episodes before I finish the marathon

Feel free to join in. If you don’t want to go straight through from beginning to end, here are some other ideas:

#TESDMarathon

  • Look and see what is the most recent episode posted on the hashtag, and either listen to that episode or the following episode.
  • Had something happen during your day that reminded you of an episode? Listen and tag and let the other listeners know.
  • What are you doing to listen to your favorite pod- cooking, cleaning, or reading? How do you enjoy TESD

Join in the fun. I’m currently on episode 105 after 3 weeks.

Until next time… (fingers crossed)

Forrest Walt

We kick off Episode 44 in true TESD style: with arguments and contention. Bry opens with a hearty congrats to the gang for winning Best Comedy Podcast and Podcast of the Year at the podcast awards, but the ignorance of being available to accept the award sparks a debate between the boys of the Stash.  Walt’s fatherly heroism is overshadowed by a Forrest Gump insult, which sparks an installment of Walt Flanagan: Life Consultant, which has Sunday Jeff joining in to play Ann Landers to Walt’s Dear Abby. The episode end with the adventures of Santa Bry and Mingle Balls.

Episode 45 is a live show from Dallas, Texas. Bry informs the crowd of little known Walt factoids, Q and Bry talk about Texas gals while Walt waxes philosophically about hockey grudges. After Bry goes into the mysticism of his t-shirt, the guys talk Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, Walt’s sister and his dance moves, and Bry’s brother Darren and how one can exact revenge on their big brother. After the episode, there is a Q & A with both TESD and SModcast.

Until next time…

Blame Games

So we all know that Bry is out for a tiome, and thus far TESD has been on a small hiatus. In our anticipation for its return, why not walk through the episodes of past to better appreciate it on its eventual return.

What qualifies as a celebrity in this day and age? That is the question that is postulated in Episode 40. The discussion of that turns to the rift which caused the cancellation of the podcast “Will You Sign My Cast”, which was hosted by Brian Maxwell and Ryan Reynolds (not the Van Wilder Ryan Reynolds, mind you). Reaching out on twitter and joined by Skype, Brian Maxwell gives his side of the story (though the same courtesy was extended to Ryan Reynolds, though he did not accept the request). After the boys talk about plans to call a reservist who has failed to collect his comics, and the possibility of doing live shows around the Red Bank area.

In Episode 41, the guys talk about traditions of looking at Christmas lights as Walt propositions Bry to be Santa at the store. Bry recalls a repressed memory of a fishing trip and talks about the “Adobe Guy” incident with Suzanne. Quinn brings up their nomination for the Podcast Awards. After critiquing the Kardasian Kredit Kard, the boys get into an argument regarding the plans of recording the Space Monkeys podcast. At the end of the episode, there is additional content in which a transaction with a customer is overheard and the guys talk about Phoenix Jones and real life vigilantes/superheroes.

Its a Happy Birthday to Bryan Johnson to kick off Episode 42. After discussing the musical choices of Pam and Edgar, Bry exposes Suzanne’s faux pas at remembering his birthday. Walt introduces 3 new game creations: What’s on the Menu, Cold Call Cuss-Out, and I Fought the Law( and the Law ONE), which is then played. A discussion of their fictional group, The Time Squad, lends credence to Walt’s prophecy about Jankem, and there is a further reading from Pam’s book, with special guest Frank #3

Episode 43 begins with responses to the treatment of Suzanne from the previous episode. An article from a Dear Abby column sparks Bry top pose the same scenario to Walt Flanagan: L:ife Consultant. The guys learn of their awardment of being one of the Top 25 podcasts for Apple Rewind for 2010. Quinn brings up the Sean Connery interview about smacking a female, talk of Year without a Santa as Ming models his elf outfit, and a game of What’s on the Menu. Michael Zapcic talks about Alice Cooper calling the store, and Sunday Jeff informs the gang of the Jewish practice of the Bris.

Until next week…

Pucknuts: Clinched!

I think the announcement in this post is best narrated with the same words used to announce the band KISS at live events, “YOU WANTED THE BEST? YOU GOT THE BEST!” But instead of talking about the hottest band in the world, we are talking about one of the hottest podcasts in the world.

Thats right my fellow enthusiasts from the pucknut gallery. As of today, the New Jersey Devils have clinched a spot in the 2011-2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs. And if you refer back to TESD Episode 100, when that happens, Pucknuts returns in full force.( And there was much rejoicing.)

So spread the word, get your fav hockey shirt on, unless your one of the lucky few with a Pucknuts Tee, and get ready for that old Pucknuts magic to return to our iTunes downloads!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled Pucknuts return party, already in progress.

Skating Like Jagr

First off, Pucknuts update. To date, The New Jersey Devils are still holding the  number 6 spot in the eastern conference. It looks like the playoffs will be eventuality for the Devils, however it could very well be possible to be knocked out of the running for the Stanley Cup. Fingers crossed.

So on to The Apuckalypse Project, and we will start with an integral part of your ice hockey gear: Ice Skates.

The key to selecting skates, if you are unable to go to a store and get sized for skates, is that the size of your regular footwear is not transferable to the size of skates you will wear. You will take your shoe size (some places even suggest using the size of formal shoes you wear) and go down 1 1/2 to 2 sizes below. For example, if you wear a size ten in shoes, then you you would select either an 8 1/2 or 8 in skates. Keep in mind whether or not you have wider feet or narrow arches or the like, and select sizes to accommodate. You will your skates to be snug to tight, depending on personal preference. Some players like tighter for better control of their skates.

Another feature of skates to be mindful of is the ankle part. There are two choices: aggressive, in which the ankle part of the skate is angled forward towards the front of the skate, and relaxed which runs straight up and down. Again, this is more for personal preference, but some sites state that aggressive style is more suited for your stronger skaters while defensive players tend to gravitate towards the relaxed fit.

Once you have your skates purchased, the next step is to break them in. Obviously, by skating on them, this will help break them in. Another process is baking your skates, which reduce the time of breaking them in and forming them to the shape of your feet. The process has you preheat the oven to a low heat, then insert a skate and allow it to bake in the oven, generally about 4-8 minutes. Once the time has expired, you remove the skate and place it on, lacing up and sitting with the skate on for 20-30 min while the skate cools and forms to the shape of your foot. After the time, set them standing upright overnight. It is important to note not to overcook your skates, or it will result in an early deterioration of your skates. If you visit icewarehouse.com, or a search on you tube, there is a process which greatly shows how to bake skates.

So now…. go skate.

See you on the ice….

Mind Theater

We start of this weeks TESD tribute post with Episode 38, where Bry intros the show with his best Garrison Keeler impersantion. Bry then talks a little about discovering the show “Strangers with Candy,” and then talks about the iPad charity endeavor and Bry challenges Walt to come up with a charity, which begins a debate over turkeys. Bry reevaluates crying over the death of the president and the gang look at someone on the internet tagged as Sissy Socks. A discussion on Farmville and a promise to bring in Pam’s book to read on air closes out the episode.

Episode 39 starts with the guys talking about losing 25 minutes of recording. Walt requests Vintage Halloween photos for a special project. The gang show their appreciation to Christopher Laudando, Friend of Quinn and co-creator of the graphic novel Constellation Park (How many times do I need to tell you people to go out and buy it already?), who was a large contributor to the iPad charity endeavor. The gang brainstorms ideas of coming up with a TESD game akin to Farmville. After further debates on Cropsy, Bry talks about Pam’ Josh Groban concert experience and how he plans to take his niece to a concert. The gang then reads an excert from Pam’s book.

After this episode, the Adam & Eve bonus pod was recorded, which is now available on bandcamp.com The only spoiler I will give is that Suzanne does a 1 True 3 about Bryan.

Until next week…
